Adolescent Prevention Services
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council’s approach is to provide the youth activities and a didactic approach designed to help youths and families increase protective factors in the areas of community, family, school, social/peer relationships, including individuality and societal norms. It is believed that Prevention Programs aims to reduce elevated risk-factors through increase in protective factors. More...
Adolescent School-Based Services
The Big Island Substance Abuse Council Adolescent School-Based Services, or Honua Kāpili, provide non-residential comprehensive specialized services on a scheduled basis at the various school campuses on Hawaii Island. Professionally directed services include evaluation, treatment, case management, and recovery services to clients with less problematic substance abuse related behavior than would be found in a residential or day treatment program. The risk and protective factor framework addresses measurable risk factors, which are precursors for drug and alcohol problems, and measurable protective factors, which “moderate or buffer” the impact of risk factors by improving coping, adaptation, and competence.
